Emily Fonda, M.D.

As Chief Medical Officer, Emily Fonda, M.D., oversees CalOptima’s health care delivery system, including development and implementation of strategies, programs, policies and procedures. She is responsible for leading key CalOptima departments, including Clinical Operations, Utilization Management, Case Management, Long-Term Support Services, Pharmacy Management, Enterprise Analytics and the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly. Board certified in Internal Medicine, Dr. Fonda has more than 25 years of experience in direct patient care as well as medical leadership roles.

Prior to her appointment as Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Fonda was Deputy Chief Medical Officer for more than a year and a CalOptima Medical Director for nearly six years. Previous to CalOptima, she was in private practice in Newport Beach as an Internal Medicine specialist for many years and held leadership positions at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, where she served as the Physician Advisor and was elected the first female Chairperson of the Department of Medicine. Dr. Fonda also held senior management positions at a national managed care company and a national physician advisor organization focused on Medicare compliance. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California, medical degree from UC Irvine and a Master of Medical Management degree from USC’s Marshall School of Business.
