As Chief Information Officer, Wael Younan provides leadership and oversight of CalOptima’s enterprisewide technology needs, operations and strategy. He also serves as the Chief Information Security Officer responsible for security and risk management to proactively manage and decrease the agency’s risk exposure. He has more than 21 years of information security and management experience in leading teams and enterprise projects in a health care setting to ensure effective security controls and HIPAA compliance. Prior to joining CalOptima, Younan served as a Chief Information Security Officer with the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, where he oversaw information security for the county’s Ambulatory Care Network, Managed Care Services and Correctional Health System. His past experience includes leadership roles at several large health plans and provider organizations, including Kaiser Permanente, Anthem and CareMore Health Systems. He earned a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications management from DeVry University and holds certifications in information security and data privacy solutions.
